DAVID MOYES TO REPLACE ALEX FERGUSON

Everton boss David Moyes is set to be appointed as the new Manchester United manager, following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

An announcement could be made on Thursday.

Moyes is expected to tell players and staff of his decision to join United at a training ground meeting on Thursday morning.

He could still lead Everton out at Goodison Park against West Ham on Sunday for what would be his final home game in charge.

ALEX FERGUSON TO RETIRE AT THE END OF THE SEASON

Manchester United have confirmed Sir Alex Ferguson will RETIRE as manager at the end of the season.

The most successful manager in English football history will bow out after the West Bromwich Albion game on May 19th and join the football club’s board.

Fergie, 71, said on the official club website: ‘The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time.

Being a staunch Liverpool fan. if I say it's the right time for him to retire I'd get bashed by Man Utd fans so I'm just going to wish him all the best.  Now the guessing game will begin. Is Mourinho departing for London or Manchester?  Will Pep Guardiola consider managing Man Utd?

Liverpool 3 - Newcastle 1 on 30 December 2011

Liverpool managed to win without Suarez with Bellamy and Gerrard both scoring. Andy Carroll didn't score but played really well. I'm still not sure about our chances of finishing 4th because Spurs still have 2 games in hand and Arsenal have been playing well. We still need to sign a proven goalscorer next month when the transfer window opens or we'll struggle especially when Suarez doesn't play.

Liverpool players still support Suarez despite guilty verdict

A joint statement was released by Liverpool players on the club website.

The statement read: "Luis Suárez is our team‑mate and our friend and as a group of players we are shocked and angered that he has been found guilty by the FA. We know he is not racist. We are a squad of many different nationalities and backgrounds. All of us support the club's commitment to fighting racism. All of us accept there is no place in the game for any form of discrimination. As a group of players we totally support the Kick it Out Campaign. We have lived, trained and played with Luis for almost 12 months and we don't recognise the way he has been portrayed. We will continue to support Luis through this difficult period, and as a popular and respected friend of all his team-mates, he will not walk alone."

Suarez was found guilty for racially abusing Patrice Evra and was banned for eight games and fined 40,000 pounds.

Liverpool have 14 days in which to appeal against the extent of the FA's punishment once they receive the commission's findings in writing.

Chelsea and Liverpool target Lucas Ocampos is staying in Argentina

Liverpool and Chelsea have been told to forget about signing River Plate's teenage sensation Lucas Ocampos after River Plate vice president Diegoe Turnes insists they are determined to keep Ocampos at the club and will reject any big offers in January.

Turnes said: "We have had offers from Italy and England but the kid will not leave the club."

Liverpool's Suarez found guilty for racially abusing Manchester United's Evra

Suarez was found guilty by an FA Independent Regulatory Commission on Tuesday for racially abusing Patrice Evra.

The FA said in a statement: "An Independent Regulatory Commission has today found a charge of misconduct against Luis Suarez proven, and have issued a suspension for a period of eight matches as well as fining him £40,000, pending appeal."

The commission's ruling stated: "Mr Suarez used insulting words towards Mr Evra during the match contrary to FA Rule E3(1); "The insulting words used by Mr Suarez included a reference to Mr Evra's colour within the meaning of Rule E3(2);"Mr Suarez shall be warned as to his future conduct, be suspended for eight matches covering all first team competitive matches and fined the sum of £40,000; "The [penalty] is suspended pending the outcome of any appeal lodged by Mr Suarez against this decision."

The FA confirmed that Suarez's suspension will not start until the outcome of any appeal.

The statement added: "Mr Suarez has the right to appeal the decision of the Independent Regulatory Commission to an Appeal Board. An appeal must be lodged within 14 days of the date of the written reasons for the decision.

"The penalty is suspended until after the outcome of any appeal, or the time for appealing expires, or should Mr Suarez decide not to appeal. The reason for this is to ensure that the penalty does not take effect before any appeal so that Mr Suarez has an effective right of appeal."

Liverpool issued their initial response in a statement, outlining they were "surprised and disappointed" and said they found it "extraordinary" the FA had taken Evra's word.

They did not officially confirm whether or not they would be appealing, but said: "Liverpool Football Club is very surprised and disappointed with the decision of the Football Association Commission to find Luis Suarez guilty of the charges against him. We look forward to the publication of the Commission's Judgment.

"We will study the detailed reasons of the Commission once they become available, but reserve our right to appeal or take any other course of action we feel appropriate with regards to this situation.

"We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone when no one else on the field of play - including Evra's own Manchester United team-mates and all the match officials - heard the alleged conversation between the two players in a crowded Kop goalmouth while a corner kick was about to be taken."

ps: I'm also surprised that the FA believed Evra and I wonder whether Suarez would've received the same punishment if he was a Man Utd player.

Kenny Dalglish refuses to comment on Torres-Liverpool link

He knows he desperately needs a goalscorer but only says he's keeping his options open.

In fact, he doesn't want to talk about any possible target.

Good because it can unsettling for players when managers talk about possible targets especially when one of them is a former player.

Manchester United fan almost dies while watching her team play

knife-edged games brought on the life threatening condition-reuters file pic

LONDON, Dec 16 — Watching your favourite football team trying to hang on to a precarious lead in the dying minutes of a match is enough to frazzle anyone’s nerves, but for one Manchester United fan the stress was nearly too much.

The 58-year-old woman gets so anxious she has to take treatment for a life-threatening condition brought on by watching knife-edge games at the Old Trafford stadium.

The condition, known as an Addisonian crisis, comes about when the adrenal glands do not produce enough of the stress-reducing hormone cortisol, a lack of which can lead to low blood pressure and even a coma.

“We believe that our patient was having difficulty mounting an appropriate physiological cortisol response during the big games and therefore we present this as the first description of Manchester United-induced Addisonian crisis,” said Dr Akbar Choudhry who treated the patient.

Doctors suspected the condition when the woman started getting bouts of anxiety, palpitations, panic, light headedness, and a sense of impending doom towards the end of matches.

The symptoms were less serious when the home side was playing a lower-rated team.

An Addisonian crisis, which is a manifestation of Addison’s disease, is difficult to diagnose because the main symptoms include fatigue, lethargy and low mood — often experienced by otherwise healthy people and frequently reported in many other chronic conditions.

“Luckily, the patient was on holiday for United’s 6-1 defeat by local rivals Manchester City in October,” Choudhry said in a report on BMJ.com.

“But, by this time, doctors had fine-tuned her therapy and she has remained symptom-free during recent tense contests against Sunderland and FC Basel,” he added.

Treatment coincided with the start of the 2011/12 football season and the patient has managed to attend all games at Old Trafford without any adverse effects. — Reuters

ps: I must admit I also panic when I watch Liverpool play sometimes.
